I hate calling people, this is because I have phone-o-phobia, for those of you who don't know what that is, it's an irrational fear of talking on the phone. (note this is different from phonophobia which would be the irrational fear of sound) Though it's not as much talking on the phone, though it is a bit of that as well, but more of calling people. It makes me ridiculously nervous and also makes me shake. Which is why I am the wrong person to have the job of calling lots of Jr. Highers to tell them we are going sailing on Friday. Anyway, just thought I'd share that. (and if you are a Jr. Higher, you should come sailing with us)

I know _exactly_ what you mean. Most of my house - most notably Mom, Steph, and myself - have it in some degree or another. Mom tries to ignore it; I acknowledge it's there, but try not to let it affect me; and Stephanie just won't make phone calls at all. It's a fairly rational fear, I think.
In general I try to ignore the phone whenever humanly possible, in fact, my mom makes most of my phone calls for me (including ones to see how late the grocery store is open) but unfortunately if mom made all the calls to the Jr. Highers that would just be incredibly wierd. Oh, and I agree, it's completely rational! However my sister wouldn't agree.
*grins* Yep, Mom makes most of our calls, too. Or rather, I find 98% of the info needed online, and _then_ she does.
Of course it's rational. You can't see the other person. If the voice itself is less than half of the communication getting across, and body language/facial expressions comprises the rest, it's only natural that the sudden blindness would be disorienting.
you say "and if you are a Jr. Higher, you should come sailing with us"
September 11,1961 was my first Day At Stanford Jr. High(now Stanford middle School) and June 19,1964 Was my last
School day At Stanford Jr.high.
So it is too too late for me to Sailing with you. beside Victorville, CA is way way to far away. Maybe one day!
I am happy to announce that I was a previous phone-o-phobic and have reached a place of not quite so phobic calling ability! yay! I don't understand it either, but I still have a problem with making phone calls--don't like it, avoid the phone, cringed when E. asked me to call the exterminator just now to see what they'd suggest about our recently discovered micey guests. But... I think going to college help solve some of that hesitancy, simply because I HAD to make phone calls. It was good discipline. :-)
